Final Days Before the Wedding

Final Days Before the Wedding

It’s the final days before the wedding and we’re all at the “let’s party” moment and forget about planning! The wedding is two days away and we’re exhausted. The last-minute details are weighing on us all.

Margot had her final dress fitting on Saturday and we celebrated with lunch at Dos Caminos. Eric is picking up the dress today and bringing it home!

Final Days Before the Wedding

We dropped as much of the wedding paraphernalia as we could on Tuesday at the Club.

Dropping off goodie bags at the Hilton Garden Inn Norwalk for our guests.

Filled with water bottles, snacks, fruit and a hangover remedy kit with Advil, Pepto and Tic Tacs.

The program is done and we have these adorable bubbles to blow when the bride and groom walk down the aisle.

Final Days Before the Wedding

Tomorrow is the rehearsal dinner hosted by Roger and Jane Borchin at Craft 14 Restaurant + Bar. It’s a large party of 45, and a great way to kick start the weekend.

Final Days Before the Wedding

Saturday, the bridal party is off early to the hairdresser and then on to the Club for a light tea lunch and makeup.

The entire wedding party and family will arrive before 3pm and we’ll have the reveal, Margot presented to Andy in her dress and veil. Then tons of wedding pictures.

The wedding is at 5:30pm and Claire’s boyfriend Bryan is videotaping the ceremony on his phone so we can post it on YouTube for Grandma and Gramps. My parents are unable to attend, but we have cousins in Rochester who are spending the evening with them to watch the video and share a celebratory dinner. Thank you Bryan and Begys!!!

We’ll wrap up the weekend with a pool party brunch for our out-of-town guests, about 90, with wood-oven pizza, salad and dessert from Skinny Pines and later College Creamery, an ice cream truck, arrives for more sweets. We also have the makings for s’mores in the fire pit.

It’s an exciting weekend coming up!

The final MOB blog is all about the wedding weekend – stay tuned.

Save-the-Date Card – Oops, First Snafu

The MOB Blog

We had our first snafu with the save-the-date card. The cards were shipped to me because I volunteered to type the labels, stuff, seal and stamp. The card was clearly  printed twice with slight overlapping. Margot and Andy were bummed, concerned about the company.

I told them to contact the company and sent them a pdf of the card. The company representative from Minted.com was very professional and apologetic. They reprinted and shipped express at no charge.

The new card is perfect! We got them out a few days later than expected, but certainly with enough time to get on everyone’s calendar.

Ironically, Andy’s brother Matthew is also getting married this year and their save-the-date card arrived on the same day. Margot thought it was funny, Andy was disappointed and Mrs. B (Andy’s mom) thought it was wonderful. She got responses about what an exciting time it must be for the family!

The card is adorable and suits them to a tee. Margot went to makeup school (MUD) and lipstick is her thing and Andy has a mustache and beard!

Even the back is cute!

Update on Tent Appointment

The snow is melting slowly. The appointment for the tent company to come out is next Monday. I think we’ll have to postpone again. No way that snow is going away in a week!

Mother-of-the-Bride

Welcome to my new blog series Mother-of-the-Bride, aka “The MOB Blog”. Our daughter Margot and her beau Andy got engaged on February 7, 2017. We couldn’t be more thrilled; Andy is already like a son to us! The big surprise is that they want to get married here at home AND the date is September 16, 2017, yes only six months away. (I’ve either lost my mind or am about to!)

“The Ring!”

The Mother-of-the-Bride Journey

Great progress has been made to date. We’ve secured the caterer, Fabulous Feasts, who we’ve used for a couple of years now, and they truly are fabulous feasts. I also secured a 10-toilet portable restroom trailer from Royal Restrooms; our septic tank could never handle this large a crowd. The guest list is a little over 200 — they have lots of friends!!

I moved on to get as much info for the budgeting process as I could by either calling companies or using the net to get pricing for tents (flaps, fans and heaters, just in case of inclement weather) linens, tableware, flatware, tables, chairs, huppah and shuttle buses, etc. I must admit in less than three weeks, I was a little proud of myself for being so efficient. Then I made a phone call….

Do We Really Know What We’re Doing????

We have a neighbor from our previous home who is a wedding planner and mother to my older daughter Claire’s best friends – twins – Eric and Kristina. I called Audrey to pick her brain. Then I called Margot and told her what I learned. We quickly realized that our lack of experience in putting together such an event was a road to disaster and we hired Audrey from Audrey Pierot Events! Immediately, the stress level went down and my daughter and I know we’ll have a magnificent event with expert assistance.

Audrey was supposed to come up today with Stamford Tent & Event Services to look over the grounds, measure for the tent(s) and meet the caterer. We had a few inches of snow last week and had to postpone. The tent people need to have full access and visibility of the property. We rescheduled for 3/28.

Now, it looks like we may have to postpone again. We’re expecting a BIG storm tonight and the prediction is 12- to 18-inches!!! It always happens in March that one last storm. However, the weather predictions following the storm are for continued cold weather, not good for melting the snow and with the higher elevation where we live, the temps stay colder here than the surrounding areas.

So, this planning portion is on hold pending better weather…. In the meantime, as Mother-0f-the-Bride, I’ll be posting a new entry in our wedding planning adventure every Monday. Still to come, a save-the-date card mishap and bride and bridal party dress shopping!
